DAYAK RICE STICK - TUGUL PADI - BORNEO
DAYAK RICE STICK - TUGUL PADI - BORNEO
MESUREMENTS: cm 110 x 4 // 43.3" x 1.6"
This stunning original piece is a tool and ritual object used by the Dayak people in rice cultivation. Sticks like this one are employed among Dayak to create holes in the ground where rice seeds are inserted. Subsequently, the stick is planted in the rice field and remains there for approximately 3 months, serving as a guardian to ensure a good harvest. Afterward, it is stored inside the house. This rice stick is crafted from extremely durable ironwood and features an ancestral figure seated atop it with crossed arms on the chest. The object displays signs of erosion due to exposure to the elements and, at the same time, has a "heavier" patina from handling. I acquired this item from a renowned Balinese gallery specializing in Dayak artifacts, and I have proof of purchase. If desired, I can also provide a certificate confirming the aforementioned origin. This is a genuine, high-quality item.
