Important door from an Atoni Timorese hut made of solid wood with two leaves, finely carved with a crocodile on each of the two leaves. Discovered directly in situ, the door was still installed in the hut. It shows obvious signs of use, especially cracks in the wood that have been repaired at the back with small boards fixed with nails. This is an object of great ethnographic value. The crocodile holds fundamental importance in Timorese animist culture, representing the primordial ancestor and the creator of the world according to the mythology of this people.

Importante porta di capanna atoni timorese in legno massello a due ante, finemente scolpita con un coccodrillo su ognuna delle due ante. Rinvenuta direttamente sul campo opresso la popolazione locale, la porta era ancora installata nella capanna. Presenta evidenti segni di uso, in particolare delle crepe nel legno che sul retro sono state riparate con delle tavolette fissate con chiodi. Si tratta di un oggetto di grande valore etnografico. Il coccodrillo assume un'importanza fondamentale nella cultura timorese animista, rappresentando l'antenato primordiale e il creatore del mondo secondo la mitologia di questo popolo.

FRENCH ---Porte importante d'une cabane atonienne timoraise en bois massif à deux battants, finement sculptée avec un crocodile sur chacun des deux battants. Découverte directement sur le terrain près de la population locale, la porte était encore installée dans la cabane. Elle présente des signes évidents d'utilisation, notamment des fissures dans le bois qui ont été réparées à l'arrière avec des planchettes fixées par des clous. Il s'agit d'un objet de grande valeur ethnographique. Le crocodile revêt une importance fondamentale dans la culture animiste timoraise, représentant l'ancêtre primordial et le créateur du monde selon la mythologie de ce peuple.Mesures : Porte gauche : 140 cm x 33 cm x 12 cm.
