A Pure Songkok: A Pagoda Hat from Lombok with Roots in the Karang Asem Kingdom
On offer is a ceremonial headdress, pure songkok or also called topi pagoda, originating from the Sasak tribe in Lombok, features a tall, conical design made from silvered metal wire mesh. It is composed of three graduated levels. At the top of the headdress, there is a stylized flower made of silvered metal wire mesh, elegantly positioned on a stalk.
The pure songkok originates from the Karang Asem region in Bali during the time when the Karang Asem kingdom entered Lombok in the year 1740. The pure songkok or pagoda hat was used by Hindu religious leaders for religious ceremonies, traditional events, and specific rituals.
